How do I avoid copyright infringement for images taken from the internet?

Answer

The use of unauthorised images can potentially have a high financial impact on SMTAFE.

It is best practice to use Creative Commons and openly licensed images. (These should always be labelled and attributed). Further information about how to obtain Creative Commons material can be found on the Library website.

Adobe stock images are also able to be used. Make sure these are attributed 'Used with permission – Adobe Stock Image 2023'

If either of the above is not an option, you can either create the images yourself, or obtain permission from the copyright owner.

Any permissions granted need to be uploaded to the Permissions file in Content Manager and added to the Copyright spreadsheet in your Blackboard shell.

These permissions will be required when the College is audited.

Make sure you label and attribute – e.g., ‘Used with permission from HB Pencils Publishing House, 2023.’
